Book on Rani Laxmibai banned in Uttar Pradesh
Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has banned a book on Rani Laxmibai, better known as Jhansi ki Rani, for allegedly objectionable content. The book titled "Rani", authored by Jaishree Misra and published by Penguin, was alleged to be containing highly objectionable material relating to her personal life. The government made the announcement on the floor of the assembly after the issue was raised by Congress Legislature Party leader Pramod Tiwari and his party colleague from Jhansi, Pradeep Jain. The two leaders termed the contents of the book as "an insult to the iron lady who took on the British with unparalleled courage and gave tremendous strength to the country's freedom movement".Rani Laxmibai is hailed as one of the country's leading freedom fighters who stood up against the British in India's first war of independence in 1857.Source: Indo-Asian News Service
